Watch the German Spock in his one-man show

It’s not unusual to see cosplayers at Star Trek conventions, on cruises, and even on virtual conferences. Fans create their own versions of their favorite characters as a way of showing their love for the series, but few are so on-point that they have parlayed it into a career. Jens Dombek has. Known as the German Spock, he has traveled the world as Spock’s doppelganger.

And in 2020, he released a one-Vulcan short film which he describes as a “A Vulcan Soliloquy. After learning that his estranged father Sarek is among the Federation Ambassadors coming onboard the Enterprise, Spock reflects on his life and place in the universe.” Against a black background, Dombek gives a powerful monologue that includes props, which include a tricorder, 3D chess set, Vulcan lute, and a lirpa, Dombek owns all of them. (The harp and the lirpa were handmade for him by a Star Trek fan.)

The German Spock has everything he needs to portray the Vulcan

This isn’t Dombek’s first film as Spock. His first came with the production of “Look Forward to the Day” which is a short film that has Kirk, Spock, and McCoy on a long-distance video call due to the pandemic. It was the perfect piece of drama for social distancing fans. He is also involved in fanmade film productions, having provided the German dubbing for Star Trek: New Voyages/Phase II.

Last year, in an interview with FanFilmFactor, Dombek said that he now owns all of the uniforms and costumes for Spock, including his red uniform from the movies, the robe from Star Trek IV, and even the green overalls from “Spock’s Brain.” He has the costumes custom-fitted for his body, and that’s not the only thing that’s custom-made as a German latex company created the ears for the German Spock in exchange for being able to use them in advertising. Dombek gets custom-made ears for life.

To learn more about the German Spock, follow him on Instagram and Youtube at spock.oclock. His Instagram feed is filled with his cosplay images, showing Spock in various, unique places, including a suitcase, an airplane, and even in Hollywood. I won’t be surprised if you find him…fascinating.
