Tig Notaro promises her Star Trek character Reno won’t be killed off.

Tig Notaro is having a big year in 2021. Already a well-known comedian, her profile has exploded over the last year or two, especially since joining Star Trek: Discovery as Reno. She’s getting more interviews, higher-profile roles, and even landed a role in the 2021 Zach Snyder film Army of the Dead. It wasn’t just her role in the film that made people take notice but that she literally replaced Chris D’elia in the film; after it was already done shooting. The amount of work and CGI that went into inserting Notaro over D’elia was a work of movie wonder.

Don’t worry Star Trek fans, Notaro is wanting to stick around the series for as long as they’ll let her. She talks about being a part of the series, telling Metro Weekly;

"I really thought I’d end up just going in for an episode or two. But this turned into something. Alex [Kurtzman] said, “We’re going to use you as much as we can get you.” I hear from people all the time like, “Oh, they don’t use you enough,” or “Why don’t they use you more?” And it’s like, I have a stand-up career and a million other things I’m doing. I try to do as much as I can on Star Trek, but I just don’t have the time."

So what’s the future for Reno? Definitely not dying!

While talking about the upcoming season of Discovery, Metro Weekly’s Randy Shulman joked about being careful if they hand her a redshirt during filming. Redshirts were used as character cannon fodder in the original series of Star Trek, and have become a running gag in the series.

Notaro laughed alongside Shulman and quipped;

"[Laughs.] I’ve been told by Alex that they’re not ever going to kill me"

Did Tig Notaro tip her character’s fate?

It’s very possible that Tig Notaro is telling the truth, that her character Reno will never be killed off. Yet, if you’re familiar with her dead-pan sense of humor, you also know that she would absolutely be the one to spoil something sarcastically.

It’s just a bit of sarcastic speculation on our part, but with the massive changes done to Star Trek and how they tell stories, killing off characters isn’t exactly out of the realm of possibilities. Notaro’s Reno is probably safe but if she does bite the big one, Notaro would have had a good laugh at everyone for this response.
