Patrick Stewart voices 1-star reviews

Patrick Stewart has a commanding yet melodic voice that is as easy to listen to as it is mesmerizing. During the height of the pandemic, the classically trained actor would read daily sonnets on his social media accounts. Those readings proved to be very popular, often getting hundreds of thousands of views which isn’t surprising considering Stewart could read a restaurant menu and make it sound like Shakespeare.

So it’s no surprise that in 2017, GQ tapped him to read 1-star reviews from disgruntled visitors of some famous monuments. Included in the list is the Statue of Liberty, Stonehenge, the Gateway Arch, Mount Rushmore, the Hoover Dam, the National History Museum, and the Eiffel Tower. And Stewart addresses each review with gusto, adding inflections at just the right time. His effortless acting ability is on full display in this short video.

Patrick Stewart is well-known for his ability to make any story come alive

Fans of audiobooks won’t be surprised at Stewart’s ability to make the words come alive. He narrated the 2006 version of The Christmas Carol, which was published by Simon and Schuster. To date, the book has 1,807 ratings with an average of 4.8 stars. In case you want to hear for youself why the ratings are so high, you can listen to a nine-minute sample here.

The Last Battle from The Chronicles of Narnia, which was narrated by Stewart, was an Audie Award winner with Audiofile saying “Making audio chills run up and down the listener’s spine, Stewart brings The Last Battle to life as he shifts seamlessly from one character to another….Stewart is truly the right reader for this timeless tale.”

So it’s no wonder GQ chose Star Trek’s Captain (and Admiral) Jean-Luc Picard to read these one-star reviews. Not only does he make them worth listening to, he also reveals just how ludicrous they are in his sophisticated British accent.
