Nichelle Nichols will christen headquarters of Star Trek club

The International Federation of Trekkers (the Federation) began thirty-six years ago. Approved by Gene Roddenberry and founded by him and Russ Haslage, the club is a non-profit organization that has more than thirty chapters and over 2,100 members. While the club remains committed to interest in the Star Trek universe, it also is committed to helping others. It moved to its new location in Huron, Ohio in 2020, and Star Trek’s Nichelle Nichols is set to christen it in September with what will be her final appearance east of Los Angeles.

Federation co-founder, Russ Haslage said in a press release that the “new facility is a culmination of a dream. It is a testament to the selfless work and gifts of our volunteers and donors over these many years. And there is nothing more fitting than to have my long-time friend and ‘adopted’ showbiz mom here to officially christen the location.”

Nichelle Nichols will be signing autographs at the fan event

Nichols will also sign autographs, take photos with fans, and pose for photos with fans in a replica of Captain James T. Kirk’s captain’s chair on the Enterprise bridge from Star Trek. (Fans can choose to have Nichols autograph the photo or not.) Fans also have the chance to have dinner with Nichols with all proceeds from the meet-and-greet going to benefit Nichols’ retirement fund.

Nichols will be appearing for three days on September 10, 11, and 12, but there are a limited number of spots available to meet her (only 300 for dinner each day). You can reserve your spot, learn full details about the event and the prices to obtain Nichols’ autograph and to take pictures with her, and find local attractions and nearby lodgings by going to the Federation’s website.
