Dr. Crusher and Picard had a will they/won’t they relationship

Star Trek: The Next Generation set up some amazing chemistry between Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) and Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). Theirs was the quintessential will they or won’t they type of relationship. And though they are still currently in the “won’t they” phase, fans are hoping for a reunion on Stewart’s series, Star Trek: Picard, will offer some resolution to the simmering romance.

Though Gene Roddenberry established the possibility of a romance between the couple in the series’ bible, according to ScreenRant, he intended for their relationship to be more difficult than it was. On the Enterprise, Crusher and Picard had a friendship based on mutual respect, but in Roddenberry’s bible, things between them were supposed to be more troublesome because Dr. Crusher still blamed Picard for her husband, Jack Crusher’s, death. That blame would serve to prevent the two of them from ever becoming more than friends, even if that.

Dr. Crusher and Captain Picard never really had any contention

Though the pair had their moments of disagreement aboard the Enterprise, for the most part, they had a friendship that didn’t correlate to Roddenberry’s intention. And the episode “Attached” strengthened their bond. So, if Crusher did blame Picard for her husband’s death, which happened on the Stargazer while Jack Crusher was under Captain Picard’s command, we certainly didn’t see it onscreen.

That being said, if Crusher were to ever make an appearance on Picard and reunite with her old captain, perhaps we’d learn more about what actually happened aboard the Stargazer and why Dr. Crusher has so much hesitation with a relationship. After all of this time, the pair deserve a happy ending…or at least a happy resolution.

Next. Roddenberry didn’t see Worf as a primary character. dark
