Star Trek: Prodigy casts John Noble and Jimmi Simpson as villains
By Chad Porto
Star Trek: Prodigy has found their villains in Jimmi Simpson and John Noble.
The upcoming Star Trek: Prodigy has found its villains in John Noble and Jimmi Simpson. They join Ella Purnell, Jason Mantzoukas, Dee Bradley Baker, Ryle Alazraqu, Brett Gray, and Angus Imrie as new members of the franchise.
They’re also going to be joined by Star Trek legends Kathryn Janeway and Robert Beltran, who will be returning to the franchise with Mulgrew playing a new character, the Emergency Command Hologram (modeled after Kathryn Janeway) and Beltran returning as Chakotay respectively.
Deadline is the one reporting this, and they claim that Noble (Denethor in the Lord of the Rings trilogy) will be the main villain of the series, called The Diviner. He’s the overseer of the mining facility that the main characters escape from in the pilot. He also has ties to Gwyn (Purnell), who will be revealed to be her creator.
Who are John Noble and Jimmi Simpson playing on Star Trek: Prodigy?
Bringing on such talent as Noble and Simpson, you have to make sure they’re playing characters that fans want to sink their teeth into. While you may have heard Noble’s voice in the Star Trek: Prodigy trailer, we don’t know much more about either character just yet.
This is what Deadline has to say about Noble’s character, The Diviner
"Noble will voice The Diviner. A ruthless tyrant who controls the asteroid of Tars Lamora, The Diviner exploits wayward species and will stop at nothing in his hunt for the Protostar ship, no matter the cost. Though his goals are shrouded in mystery, his body is failing him and he created his progeny, Gwyn, to one day carry on his mission when she is ready for it."
Simpson is a well-known character actor from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Westworld, and my favorite appearance; Psych. He’s playing Drednok, an enforcer for Divine who’s hunting down the Protostar. Deadline describes his character as heartless;
"Simpson joins the cast as Drednok. The Diviner’s deadly robotic enforcer is heartless and cold. His sole purpose is to keep The Diviner on task and ensure that the Protostar is found."
Not confirmed date for Prodigy has been revealed yet, but it is expected to arrive near the end of 2021. Expect it to premiere alongside the new toy line from Playmates just in time for Christmas.
