Deleted scene from Star Trek: Insurrection was classic Quark
Quark had a cameo role in Star Trek: Insurrection
Star Trek: Insurrection isn’t one of the most popular films in the franchise history. For the most part, critics all say the same—that the movie plays more like an extended television episode than it does a cinematic adventure. One thing the movie did have going for it was the humor. The Enterprise crew experienced the regenerative properties of the Ba’ku, and it was those properties that, in the original script of the film, which was obtained by Trekcore, had Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Quark investigating opportunities that would have given him an ample supply of latinum.
The deleted scene, which wasn’t included on DVD or Blu-Ray features, has Quark appearing on the planet with two Dabo girls. He immediately spies Worf and begins talking to him about building the “greatest spa in the galaxy.”
"QUARK’S VOICEWorf! They turn to see a Ferengi (QUARK) approaching in abathing suit with a beach umbrella and two barely dressedDabo girls…WORFWhat are you doing here, Quark?QUARKThe same thing everyone else inthe quadrant is going to be doinghere… as soon as I build thegreatest spa in the galaxy…(sotto)… these people don’t have anyreligious thing about casinos dothey…?PICARDThere aren’t going to be any spason this planet.QUARKDo I know you?PICARD(ignoring thequestion)This world is about to become aFederation protectorate, whichwill end any and all attempts atexploitation by people like you.QUARKExplain to me how five thousandtime-share units… right therealong the lake… would be‘exploiting’ anyone.PICARDMister Worf, have thisuninvited… offlander and hisquests beamed to the Enterprise. We’ll deposit them at Deep SpaceNine.WORFMust you, sir?"
There is photographic evidence of Quark’s appearance
Though there isn’t any video footage of the Ferengi’s appearance, fortunately, Heavy.com shared links to some of the photographs taken onset as well as pictures of the attire Armin Shimerman donned for his cameo. The Trek collector, KGHanson, had the images in his personal collection, and he posted the images to YourProps.com which is an online museum of movie props. The bathing suit really is a must see!
Though we don’t know if it will happen, at least one fan has suggested that the scene be released and included in the 4K remastering of Star Trek: Insurrection. If this doesn’t happen, it’s doubtful we’ll ever be able to see yet another one of Quark’s classic moments of greed.
