The Orville is back in 2022!
The Orville is not only coming back in 2022 but it’s coming back as The Orville: New Horizons, a fitting name for a fitting debut. The show moved from Fox to Hulu and due to Covid-19 production had to be halted, causing a massive delay in the show’s return. The show will come back with 11 episodes and will run longer. Sometimes eclipsing an actual hour.
The show will largely remain unchanged, with it following the old Star Trek formula that worked to great success for five different shows.
As Hulu describes the show (via TrekMovie)
"…finds the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships."
Series creator Seth MacFarlane is back of course, as are co-stars Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, and Jessica Szohr. Joining this new season is Anne Winters as Charly Burke. Also, the late Norm Macdonald one more time as Yaphit. Macdonald passed away about a week before the teaser dropped.
The Orville returns in March of 2022
To announce the premiere date of the Orville, Hulu released a short advertisement to build up to the reveal. The video shows the bridge of the Orville, and it looks slightly improved. Probably due to an increased budget since landing on Hulu. Voice-over’s from the crew can be heard as the camera pull closer to the command chairs.
Then the ship is bathed in red light, as the tone of the voice-overs changes. Then it slowly fades to black and then the date is announced.
Orville’s return is set for March 10, 2022.
It’s a bit of a wait, but one that fans will surely wait for. The Orville was a surprise hit for some, and its tones of classic Trek have made it a fan favorite among many Star Trek fans alike. With the Nu Trek not being everyone’s cup of coffee, there are some who believe the Orville to be the true spiritual successor to Star Trek: Enterprise.
