Jeffrey Combs made his mark on Star Trek: Enterprise

Playing the ever-suspicious Andorian, Commander Shran, on Star Trek: Enterprise, Jeffrey Combs left a on mark on the final Star Trek series which was the last one to air before the franchise was resurrected on television by Star Trek: Discovery. And had Enterprise been renewed, Commander Shran would have been teamed with the entire crew for season 5 as a series regular.

Though Combs didn’t get that chance, he doesn’t hesitate to express his continued love for the series. In an interview with Den of Geek, Combs said that he doesn’t know why some people were so ambivalent about Enterprise as some of the best Star Trek episodes are on the series. He feels the series holds up well even sixteen years later.

"“I think it holds up quite nicely. There’s no marked difference in any of them, and in fact, some of the best episodes of Star Trek are on Enterprise.”"

Star Trek: Enterprise and Jeffery Combs were a perfect team

And some of those best episodes to which Combs referred were when he was guest-starring, including The Andorian Incident and Shadows of P’Jem. Had Combs been able to be a series regular, season five would have been one of the best seasons of Enterprise as Shran and Captain Archer had a unique working relationship that was a combination of grudging respect and suspicion. It would have worked tremendously well.

Though season five of Star Trek: Enterprise wasn’t to be, it’s heartening to know that more viewers are finding the series and discovering the wonderful episodes we did so long ago. And those of us who are dedicated fans are still holding out hope for a reunion somewhere down the line as the best really was yet to come.
