Star Trek: Picard season 2 will debut in February 2022

In season one of Star Trek: Picard, Soji, played by Isa Briones, didn’t know who she really was, at least not at the beginning. When she discovered the truth about herself, she was unsure of her place in the world, and though the season ended with her joining Admiral Picard’s crew, she was still essentially on her own as the only synth aboard the ship.

Soji could have stayed behind with the other synths, but she chose to go with Picard, presumably because she trusted him. Now, in season two of the series which debuts in February of next year, she will have somewhat of an evolution since the ban on synthetics is over, and she will discover more about herself and what she’s able to do.

Soji will continue to evolve in Star Trek: Picard season 2

Just like Data grew and learned in Star Trek: The Next Generation as he was surrounded by people who became his friends, so will Soji. According to an interview Briones gave Trekmovie, she hopes to be able to mirror what she sees in Raffi and Seven of Nine, two very confident and powerful women.

As changes occur in the second season, it stands to reason that the uncertain Soji, the one who didn’t quite know what to do with herself in the world, will become someone who is out to change the world. Briones wants to see a young woman who realizes she can speak up for herself and for others.

Briones offered a bit of extra information for season two, saying that there is a big emphasis on mental health.

"We’re seeing these characters going through some hard moments and really leaning on each other and prioritizing their own mental health in order to save everyone else."

It’s going to be interesting to see the changes in Soji since she has been freed from the threat hanging over her head and has found a place with Picard and his crew.
