George Takei had some unkind things to say about William Shatner

William Shatner recently returned from his monumental space flight, and while everyone was congratulating him, one former member of the Star Trek: The Original Series cast wasn’t. George Takei’s comments about the former Captain Kirk’s trip on Blue Origin on October 13 brought forth a ton of fan responses, most of which take issue with the 84-year-old actor.

Takei, who has never been a fan of Shatner’s, deemed Shatner “not the fittest specimen of 90 years” when he shared his opinion on the space flight and the wear and tear on the body. And, needless to say, fans, those who like and dislike William Shatner, were quick to jump in with verbal swats at Takei, letting him know his comments were a result of his envy.

George Takei wasn’t invited to fly into space

On Yahoo Entertainment’s article, the comments were similar and all pointing to the same issue.

"“Envy isn’t a good look, George.”“Just a little bit envious, George?”‘He’s boldly going where other people have gone before’…yes other people except George Takei”"

Shatner’s trip into space was comped by Jeff Bezos, who founded Blue Origin, an extraordinary gift considering a seat on the previous flight in July was auctioned off for $28 million, and Bezos told Business Insider that Blue Origin has sold over $100 million in flights for the future. So could Takei be showing his jealousy by his less than kind words about the former captain? If that’s the case, it’s not likely to bother Shatner who previously stated that he feels nothing but pity for the former Captain Sulu.

"“There must be something else inside George that is festering, and it makes him unhappy that he takes it out on me … Why would he go out of his way to denigrate me? It’s sad, I feel nothing but pity for him.”"

With all of the congratulations and well-wishes Shatner received as a result of his historic journey, it seems that Takei could have taken the high road and offered his own congratulations or, with nothing nice to say, simply have remained silent. Either one would have been better than essentially making fun of Shatner.
