Brent Spiner will return in Star Trek: Picard season 2

In the first season of Star Trek: Picard, Brent Spiner portrayed a simulated version of Lt. Commander Data, the android who’d given his life to protect Captain Picard in Star Trek: Nemesis. He also played the role of Dr. Altan Inigo Soong, the human son of Dr. Noonian Soong, Data’s creator. Dr. Soong helped bring Admiral Picard back to life in his new body at the end of season one so it wouldn’t have been a surprise to have him return as that character in season two, but that won’t be the case.

Spiner, in an interview with Inverse, said that he wouldn’t be returning as that Dr. Soong. He’ll be portraying a member of the Soong family but not one that he’d ever played before. In fact, this character isn’t one we’ve seen before. Spiner wrapped filming of his scenes for Picard on September 2, 2021 with his character’s identity still firmly under wraps.

"“I know they haven’t revealed much about me being in the show. I can tell you I’m a member of the Soong family. And, that I’m not playing a character I’ve ever played before.”"

Star Trek: Picard hasn’t revealed anything about Brent Spiner’s character

Though the new trailer of Picard gave viewers a look at the return of Q and the alternate timeline, Spiner’s part in the series has been kept under wraps. John de Lancie did confirm to Trekmovie that he had scenes with Spiner, and Jonathan Frakes, who has directed episodes of Picard, said Spiner is back in another role.

So, of course, the lack of information leads to all kinds of speculation as to exactly which member of the Soong family Spiner will portray. Will it be someone back in the 21st century or the 24th? Will he be friend or foe?

Star Trek: Picard season two will air on Paramount+ in February 2022, but no official date of release has been set yet.
