Warner Bros is already open to Matrix 5 even before Matrix 4 release
The Matrix Resurrections debuts on December 22, 2021
Not much is known about the plot for The Matrix Resurrections, the fourth installment in the Matrix series. The movie is scheduled for release on December 22, 2021 on HBO Max, and a good job has been done in keeping everything a secret. Even the trailer doesn’t reveal much about what’s going to happen other than a lot of action and going back to the Matrix. But the actual release and the number of viewers it will draw in doesn’t seem to matter to Warner Bros when it comes to a fifth movie in the series.
WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Chair and CEO Ann Sarnoff made it clear to Deadline that yet another venture into the Matrix would be more than acceptable.
"“Anytime Lana (Wachowski) wants to make a movie, we’re all in.”"
This doesn’t come as a surprise considering the successful run the Wachowski sisters have had in the science fiction genre as well as the popularity of the Matrix trilogy.
The Matrix Resurrections could be the rebirth of the entire Matrix
Speculations and rumors have been flying about the new movie since so little is known. Even the official synopsis on the Warner Bros Award website is sparse on information, but at least we do know that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss are returning to reclaim their roles as Neo and Trinity.
"In a world of two realities—everyday life and what lies behind it—Thomas Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. Choice, while an illusion, is still the only way in or out of the Matrix, which is stronger, more secure and more dangerous than ever before."
The trailer seems to show that the real Matrix hasn’t even been revealed. With Neo and Trinity not recognizing one another, then it’s entirely possible that what they were fighting against still exists, and they never made it out of the original Matrix. Or they made their way out only to discover in this movie that a stronger Matrix now exists.
With the official trailer garnering over 36,000,000 views and over 91,000 comments, there’s a good chance The Matrix Resurrections will be successful which will set us up for the fifth installment in a franchise that officially wrapped back in 2003.
