The Wand Company’s Tricorder

The Wand Company is known for some pretty impressive recreations and original creations for fans to get their hands on. Some of their more famous pieces they’ve created were a recreation of an original series phaser that’s actually a remote control, an Original Series mood rock that doubles as a light, and a Bluetooth communicator designed like the original series communicator devices.

Unlike past pieces of merchandise, their new piece, the tricorder is less functional and more like a walking encyclopedia of sorts. The device is said to have a working screen that is controlled by buttons on the hood, and one of which doubles as a joystick. The button’s functionality is controlled by which one of the corresponding “data discs” are located where.

According to the Trek Collective, the discs are color-coordinated, in part so that the internal sensor knows what’s what and they come in grey, blue, brown, beige, green, red, yellow, and black.

Captain log’s from the episodes are grey (Logs), details about the planets in our solar system are blue (Planetary), brown is for sound recording functions (Audio), beige is apparently a weather service of sorts (Atmosphere). Green is an FM radio and “EM field sensor” (Radiation), red is a digital compass (Orientation), while yellow will give the user updates on the device and on the Enterprise (Status), while the last one, the black disc, will have historical information and images (Archive).

No word on the price for this, though you can follow along with the device over at the official blog.
