Gwyn is still being held captive on Star Trek: Prodigy

With the airing of the third episode of Star Trek: Prodigy “Starstruck,” Gwyn (voiced by Ella Purnell), the daughter of The Diviner (voiced by John Noble) was still being help as a prisoner in the brig on the Protostar. She briefly escaped when power was diverted from the brig, and she almost succeeded in getting off the ship by replicating a shuttlecraft. But she was stopped when she lost a short battle with Rok (voiced by Rylee Alazraqui).

Right now, Dal (voiced by Brett Gray) is the unofficial captain of the ship, but after the events of “Starstruck,” it’s quite clear that he’s in over his head. He just doesn’t want to admit it. In the meantime, it’s just as clear that Gwyn is extremely intelligent and determined. Though she has been under her father’s thumb too long, she is starting to open her eyes to what really went on behind-the-scenes at the Tars Lamora prison colony.

Gwyn could make an incredible captain on Star Trek: Prodigy

Dal and the crew aren’t anywhere near ready to be in command of a starship, and although Captain Janeway (voiced by Kate Mulgrew) is there to help them in hologram form, there still needs to be someone who can take control. Gwyn has been in that position. She is used to following orders (even though they were wrong), and she is impressive both as a fighter and a communicator. In addition, she has been led astray all of her life so what better way to seek redemption for her own acts than to help the crew find better lives?

On top of that, pitting daughter against father would bring added tension to the animated drama with Gwyn having to make a difficult decision. She certainly wouldn’t stand by and watch Dal take her father out, if it were to come to that. I think the decision would have to be hers. And after time with the crew, she will come to realize the true depth of The Diviner’s evil, and that could make her a strong opponent when he comes for what he considers “his ship.”

Dal is the unofficial captain of the Protostar on Star Trek: Prodigy

With Dal currently taking the lead as the captain of the ship, he’s not going to hand over the reins easily. Nor should he. He and Rok found the ship so it wouldn’t be right for him to be sent to the background or demoted as it were. But he can’t handle things on his own, and the interactions between him and Gwyn prove they are fairly evenly matched when it comes to intelligence. So perhaps there will be an onboard battle between the pair for the captain’s seat or the crew will take a vote once Gwyn is out from underneath her father’s clutches.

However the fight for the leader role plays out, it’s going to be interesting to see who leads the Protostar into a showdown against The Diviner when it happens…not if.
