Star Trek: Discovery is no longer on the streaming platform, Netflix

Star Trek: Discovery season four will debut on Paramount Plus on November 18th but not for international fans of the series. While that was originally going to happen, at the last minute, Paramount pulled Discovery from Netflix, leaving fans that live outside the United States and Canada with an even longer wait for the fourth season…until sometime in 2022.

The excitement had been building over the series upcoming season, especially after Star Trek Destination London just ended last weekend. International fans were thrilled that they were going to be able to stream the series as it aired beginning November 18th, and Paramount’s decision has made those same fans really upset.

Fans have taken to Twitter to complain about Paramount’s decision regarding Star Trek: Discovery

Star Trek fans are some of the most outspoken so it’s no surprising that they didn’t hesitate to let their feelings be known about the delay in viewing for international viewers. Heather Rae, who goes by @BatlethBabe for her Twitter handle told Star Trek to “do better.” .

And Mrs. Smith who goes by the Twitter handle of @afurryfriend thanked all American and Canadian fans for the support while hoping that, one day, money wouldn’t rule the world.

She followed that tweet with a love shout out to the cast of Discovery while simultaneously letting Paramount know that no love was headed its way.

Meanwhile Katie Highfield whose Twitter handle is @infoworldhub posted a link to a petition at Change.org to bring Star Trek: Discovery back to Netflix. At the time of this writing, 913 people had signed.

With the series being removed from Netflix, international fans won’t be able to rewatch seasons one-three while waiting for season four. That has also stirred up a firestorm and rightfully so. Imagine not being able to see another episode of your favorite show, even past episodes, until the season premiered.

Before streaming, that is essentially what we had to do. One a series had aired for the season, we might be lucky to catch an episode or two during reruns, but we couldn’t pick the specific one we wanted to watch and were forced to wait until the next season premiered. Remember how irritating that was? That is exactly why the international Star Trek: Discovery fans (and fans supporting them) are irate.

Is there anything that can be done? Paramount didn’t poll the fans before making the decision, and it’s doubtful they will take what the fans are feeling now into consideration. According to Gizmodo, Paramount will launch in just over twenty countries  before increasing that to forty-five by the end of next year. That is a long time to wait. And it’s only a small contingent of countries who have been able to watch Discovery up until now. In fact, around 190 countries have been able to view the series on Netflix. Is it any wonder that there is so much anger coming from our international friends? But is there a solution? We’ll have to wait and see if Paramount decides to make Discovery available earlier, but it’s not looking promising.
