Star Trek’s very own William Shatner attended a fans wedding

Star Trek’s very own William Shatner is popping up as a guest to fan’s weddings.
Two Star Trek fans, Jim Grant and Amway Wells got married this November in Ticonderoga, NY. If you recognize the city, this is where the fan-made Star Trek Original Series Set Tour is located. The two fans were married at a hotel in front of their friends and family as most couples are, but unlike most couples, their crop of guests featured a former Starfleet Admiral. Well, he played one on T.V. anyway; William Shatner.
According to the Pressherald (via Daily Star Trek), Grant met Shatner at the Set Tour several years prior, and then again when he and his then wife-to-be conversed with Shatner during a virtual meet and great in 2020. When revealing the two were engaged, Shatner asked the couple when the date was, to which Grant quipped back, “Well I told my friends I’ll get married when William Shatner is at my wedding.”
Let this be a lesson for anyone who gives Shatner an opportunity to do something that’s a bit crazy and on a whim. The man flew to space at 90, if you present him a different kind of opportunity he’ll do it.
Needless to say, Shatner was in.
William Shatner actually blessed a wedding.
Shatner is big on love apparently and wanted to attend as a way to promote love in all of its forms. So on the wedding day, Shatner arrived, gave opening comments, and then recited the lines he delivered in the original Star Trek episode, “Balance of Terror”. All this went down while standing behind the same alter used in that very episode.
It’s quite impressive that Shatner would pop on by a wedding just to do this for two fans. It speaks to his character and his affection for the Star Trek fanbase. While some stars of a franchise can only handle so many seasons or films before wanting to find something else to do; mostly to avoid being only associated with that one brand, Shatner and many other Trek alumni keep coming back to the series and their fan base.
It speaks volumes to the love that the cast, crew, and fans have for one another and the franchise as a whole.
Kudos to Shatner and the happily married couple for one heck of a tale.
