Rebecca Romijn will star as Number One in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will release in 2022, and Rebecca Romijn will take her place as Captain Pike’s second in command, Number One, aboard the Enterprise. Romijn was a fan of the franchise before she was cast in Strange New Worlds as her mom had introduced her to the original series. She told People Magazine that stepping on the bridge of the Enterprise was an emotional experience for her as she takes over the character that Majel Barrett Roddenberry portrayed in The Original Series.

"“…getting to flesh out this character that was introduced over 50 years ago for the first time has also been a really special experience.”"

Jerry O’Connell voices Commander Jack Ransom for the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks

O’Connell, who has a voice role on Lower Decks, had the same affinity for Star Trek that his wife has as he is close friends with Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Wil Wheaton who he co-starred with on Stand by Me. And now, the star couple is paying it forward by bringing their twin daughters, Dolly and Charlie, into the fandom.

Once Romijn was cast as Number One, she and O’Connell had TOS on every night, and their daughters began getting to know the characters, and they’ve become fans. According to Romijn, they are both very excited about Spock, particularly Ethan Peck who will assume the role in Strange New Worlds.

"“They’re very excited about Spock! They love them some Ethan Peck, that’s for sure!”"

With the couple both starring as second in commands on their respective series, O’Connell feels like this is the close they’ll ever get to royalty, and he sees his part in the franchise as an honor.

"“But Rebecca and I being sort of a Starfleet couple — it’s the closest we’ll ever get to royalty! It’s the closest I’ll ever get to really belonging to a movement, a lifestyle. It’s an absolute honor.”"
