Star Trek fans should be happy to know that Star Trek: Prodigy is a critical hit.

If you’re a fan of Star Trek, be it classic or Nu, you may be excited to find out that Star Trek: Prodigy is every bit as good as you hoped for. The new animated series is garnering rave reviews across the board and their most recent episode; “Kobayashi” was met with near-universal acclaim for its use of past legends in a story that helped push forward the main characters.

So it shouldn’t shock anyone that the series has found a home with critics and viewers alike according to Rotten Tomatoes. The show has a critical score of 89% and an audience score of 71%. The highest of all the Nu-Trek shows.

Now, according to an article from Screenrant, the show was rated as the seventh-best animated show of 2021, coming in just behind some juggernauts that debuted this year.

Star Trek: Prodigy is standing shoulder to shoulder with some impressive names

The show did better than Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, and tied with Star Wars: The Bad Batch. It also fell just a tad short of ranking against Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Marvel’s What If…?, Star Wars Visions, Invincible, Arcane: League of Legends, and Maya and the Three.

Considering the issues surrounding the modern Trek shows and their bleak representation of the future, the charming, smart, and optimistic Prodigy really seems to be changing the course of the franchise.

With Strange New Worlds set to premiere this year, Prodigy may reflect a return to Star Trek values that have been abandoned by the newer franchises in an attempt to be edgier and “adult”. It hasn’t been a decision that’s gone over well with fans, and a return to what people expect from Trek seems to be the smart decision.

So it’s really no surprise Prodigy is the highest-rated Nu Trek show and rates as high as it does.
