Quantum Leap reboot moving forward but not with Scott Bakula.

Star Trek fans will know Scott Bakula most for his time on Star Trek: Enterprise, where he played the first-ever captain to lead a warp-capable Federation ship into the depths of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant with the help of the Vulcans. Yet, before he was laying down the ground rules for what would become the Prime Directive, science fiction fans will remember him most from Quantum Leap.

The series aired for five seasons from 1989 to 1993, and it featured Bakula as the main character Dr. Samuel Beckett and future Battlestar Galactica reboot villain, Dean Stockwell. Stockwell played Brother Cavill on the reboot of Battlestar Galactica, and during his team one Quantum Leap, played Albert “Al” Calavicci. Al was Sam’s best friend and ally as Sam attempted to “leap” back home.

It was an insanely popular series for its time and despite science fiction never truly being in vogue as other contemporary genres, Quantum Leap was a series that attracted many fans to the series. It was also one of the few shows that carried over plots and characters from episode to episode, with the series usually ending one episode at the start of the next jump, allowing the next episode to pick up right after.

Quantum Leap reboot not involving Star Trek’s Scott Bakula

Scott Bakula knew a reboot was in the works last year, and according to Deadline, that reboot is now going forward without Bakula involved in any way, shape, or form. Since the original series ended with Bakula’s Sam Beckett never making it home, the possibility of continuing the franchise with a daughter or son going leaping to look for their father would’ve been an easy sell.

Yet, that’s not the direction they’re going. The new series has a pilot order with NBC, so it’s entirely possible that the reboot never sees the light of day.

Hopefully, the creators of the reboot reconsider and bring back Bakula, as it would be a great gesture to older fans. It would also be a nice way to pay tribute to fellow series star Stockwell, who passed away in 2021.
