Star Trek has created some characters everyone loves to hate

Not every fan is going to agree on who is the least-liked character on Star Trek as we all have our preferences. TrekCulture delivers a list that is surprising, not only for the characters included but for those not included as well. Sean Ferrick, who often narrates these videos, starts out by letting viewers know that Wesley Crusher (played by Wil Wheaton) was not on the list, which will surprise some fans. But I’m one of those fans that believe he didn’t deserve all of the hate tossed his way, an opinion I’ve previously written about.

Star Trek writers made it easy to dislike some of these characters

We certainly can’t blame everything on the writers as there were some issues that may have been caused by the actors themselves which you can see in the video. One of those on this list is Dr. Pulaski (played by Diana Muldaur), and while I agree, it wasn’t so much because of Dr. Pulaski as it was the way Muldaur portrayed her. Though she was meant to be a Dr. McCoy type of character, she never quite understood that while Dr. McCoy (played by DeForest Kelley) was grumpy and gruff, he had compassion and genuinely cared for those who annoyed him…like Spock. Muldaur didn’t have that caring spirit, at least, not that I could see.

A surprising character on the list for me was Lwaxana Troi (played by Majel Roddenberry). I know many fans disliked her for her brashness, but I saw her as a sad character, one who had lost her husband, didn’t see her daughter very often, and was trying to find where she would fit for the rest of her life. There were times she was over-the-top, but I thought the writers could have struck gold with Roddenberry if they’d given her the right material. The video details two episodes in which she really stood out as an actor.

With more Star Trek characters than ever to choose from, it must have been difficult whittling this list down to ten. See what you think about the ones TrekCulture chose.
