Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fans are trying to get a Ben Sisko statue.

Star Trek fans are among the most dedicated people in the world. While you may think the love affair that the Korean pop-band BTS elicits is intense, remember that in 10 years those fans will have moved on. Yet, as if an impossibility to do so, Star Trek fans never move on. They just complain more. They will love the property even when they don’t like it, so it really shouldn’t be surprising that so many of them try to honor the stuff they do love, like Ben Sisko of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

A fan on Twitter sent me a link to a Heavy article that featured a group of people in Louisiana, led by a man named Randolph Allen, who is trying to get a Ben Sisko statue erected in New Orlean. New Orleans is the birthplace of Sisko, the lead character of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, who was played wonderfully by Avery Brooks.

Now, if you’re new to the fandom, you may not know why fans are trying to get a statue erected of a fictional character, but it’s actually becoming the norm, as both James Kirk and Kathryne Janeway have statues in their fictional hometowns of Riverside, Iowa, and Bloomington, Indiana. So you see, it’s kind of become tradition to get statues built for these characters.

A Benjamin Sisko statue in New Orleans would be perfect

There may be some uphill battles to get a statue in New Orleans, however. Riverside and Bloomington are small, less visited cities, so adding the statues helped improve their tourism appeal; especially among Trek fans.

Yet, New Orleans doesn’t have that same problem and space is indeed limited. So it may not be as easy to get a Sisko statue up in the city as was elsewhere, but that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t happen.

All of the Star Trek captains from the classic shows should eventually get one, even Jean-Luc Picard, whose statue would have to go in the city of La Barre, France. All the other captains from those five shows were born in the United States.

Hopefully, Allen can get the needed signatures to get eyes on the proposal, as Sisko and Brooks both deserve to be honored for their contribution to such an amazing franchise.
