Playmates reveals some new info on the next line of Star Trek action figures

Star Trek fans will finally get an update on the Playmates action figure revival

When it was announced in 2021 that Playmates was bringing back the Star Trek action figure line, fans rightfully got excited. After all, this line of toys helped define an entire era of Star Trek and toys during the 90s.

The line found its success early, as it produced action figures for the core cast of the Next Generation, as well as villains and other popular characters like Q. Then it continued on for the cast of Deep Space Nine, where the core cast and most popular secondary characters were again immortalized. Then once again with the cast of Voyager. Yet, by the time Enterprise came around, the toyline had started to dry up and while there was merchandise for the show, it wasn’t in the same vein as the rest of the Star Trek action figures.

The 2009 Trek movie would see some Playmates stuff return to the shelves but that would be it for over 13 years. Yet, with the return of Star Trek in a big way to streaming, and the shift to a wider audience with the inclusion of child-friendly shows like Prodigy, the decision was made to get back in bed with Playmates.

Star Trek fans will have a Playmates update soon

An Instagram post (via TrekMovie) revealed that on Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, Playmates will reveal their first bit of Star Trek action figures and toys.

It’s unclear if the figures will be an updated model or if they’re going to try and stay as in sync with the classic line as possible. We’ve heard rumors that the first line will be for Prodigy, but it’s entirely possible that more than just the Prodigy cast get their own toy.

We’ll have to wait and see if the rumor is true and if it’s not, who else is going to be included.
