LeVar Burton confirms Star Trek: Picard future

Star Trek: Picard has yet to include all of the legacy characters

While Jonathan Frakes has said that getting all of the characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation together on Star Trek: Picard might be difficult, that certainly wouldn’t stand in the way of a one-off appearance for each character, much like Marina Sirtis did in the first season episode “Nepenthe.” So far, that has been her only appearance as Deanna Troi, and while fans would welcome a chance to see her again, they are grateful that she was there. And the door is open for us to see other characters from the series meet with their favorite captain again.

In a recent video interview with ET, LeVar Burton was asked if he would revisit the role of Geordi LaForge on Picard.

"A lot of people want to know, is there potential for you to guest star on Star Trek: Picard? Would you revisit the role?Burton: How do I answer this without getting myself into trouble? I think that it is reasonable to assume that those people are still a part of Picard’s life…and….yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah.Yeah, you’re doing it?Burton: You’ll see us all. Probably not all at the same time, although, you know, never say never."

Since Burton assured ET that we (the fans) would see all of the characters, he was asked where he would like to see his in the future. Furthering his assurances that he would appear, he said he has suggested to the producers that Geordi would now be teaching. He also said that whatever Alex (Kurtzman) and the producers want him to do, he’s sure it will be spectacular.

With Burton’s return as Geordi LaForge confirmed, it’s hoped that he’ll be put in a position where his massive amount of engineering knowledge will come to the rescue, much like Captain Riker came to Picard’s rescue in the USS Zheng He. It would make sense since Picard has already confirmed that he would turn to his friends in time of need. It will be great to see LaForge in any capacity, but his engineering mind kept the Enterprise out of the fire many times, and it would be a fitting tribute to see him save another ship (and his friends), even if it’s one last ime.
