Star Trek is going to be around for a long time to come

At present, there are five Star Trek properties currently in production: Discovery, Picard, Prodigy, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds. This is the first time in the franchise history that so many series have been going on at the same time. But, as we all know, eventually these will come to an end. Star Trek: Picard is already slated to wrap up at the end of season three. If Paramount+ follows the previous series, then the others may get a seven-season run, but even when they do end, Star Trek isn’t going anywhere.

According to Variety, Nicole Clemens, president of original scripted series at Paramount Plus, told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour that they had some fantastic offerings in “our always on slate,” adding that we might see a few “more very curated additions coming.”

Paramount+ is thinking several years ahead for Star Trek

Alex Kurtzman spoke at a TCA panel for Strange New Worlds about what is going on behind the scenes, indicating that there were a bunch of shows in development, but he didn’t go into any furhter details.

"“We have to think several years out. So we’re thinking about, you know, knowing that we’re going to want new shows on the air two or three years from now we have to start putting those now. So there’s a bunch of things in development that are now starting to take shape and we’re super excited about it.”"

We do know one of those series is Section 31 as we previously reported, and there was also a mention of the Starfleet Academy series. A Star Trek anthology series has been pitched as well, but, as of now, that is still just an idea.

Previously, though, Kurtzman was adamant about the franchise not expanding until at least one of the current shows has ended. Whether that means two additional shows will roll out after that happens or if Paramount intends to keep to a five-series only schedule, we don’t know. What we do know is that a bunch of Star Trek is coming!
