Will Spock have romance in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds?

Spock has had a romance with Uhura in the Kelvin timeline.

But there might be something a little different happening for the Vulcan in the upcoming series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds which is coming to Paramount+ in May 2022. At an investor event last week, Paramount played a teaser trailer which hasn’t officially been released online. And the trailer, Cnet’s Amana Klooser notes, includes a “notable scene where the infamously emotion-averse Mr. Spock appears to lean in for a kiss with someone who looks to be another Vulcan.”

Though the Kelvin films aren’t the most well-liked among Trekkies, most do enjoy the relationship established between Spock and Uhura as Star Trek: The Original Series hinted at the romance during its three-season run. It’s a shame the series wasn’t able to fully embrace that connection between the two characters as we didn’t get to see the build up to the relationship that already existed in the Kelvin timeline.

Will Star Trek: Strange New Worlds have other Vulcans besides Spock?

As mentioned, the kiss that is hinted at in the teaser appears to take place between two Vulcans, one of which is Mr. Spock. That begs the question: will there be other Vulcans aboard the Enterprise? That will certainly be a surprise, considering there were no other Vulcans aboard the ship in The Original Series. Of course, the Enterprise could visit Vulcan, which could possibly bring in a love interest for Mr. Spock.

Whatever happens, hopefully, Strange New Worlds will build a backstory for all of its characters so, by the time Captain James T. Kirk takes over the Enterprise, they all have rich histories that will enhance their stories on The Original Series. As we watch Uhura, Nurse Chapel, and the others, we’ll know what led them to that point in their lives, and that will make the series that much better.
