Star Trek: Voyager has a unique and challenging theme.
There is one thing that Star Trek has done well and that is hiring music composers like Jerry Goldsmith and Dennis McCarthy. And those composers have created memorable theme songs for each series, so memorable, in fact, that after a few notes, we can name the series. (We won’t talk about Star Trek: Enterprise’s theme song as that is a controversial subject!) These aren’t easy pieces to learn as they were created by talented artists who had hours upon hours (and more) of experience.
While there is sheet music available if you’re wanting to learn how to play one of the theme songs, like the one for Star Trek: Voyager, one individual decided to go a different route and learn to play the song by ear. Aaron Ellis uploaded to Youtube a beautiful piano cover rendition of the theme song with an overlay of Voyager as his fingers move across the keys.
Star Trek: Voyager gave us wonderful episodes and beautiful music.
Ellis does a magical job of bringing the theme to life on the piano, even though, in the comment section, he said it took him a while to figure the second part of the song out. That certainly wasn’t something you could tell by the video he uploaded. It’s a beautiful piece of music, and I admire artists who can perfom such challenging pieces of work so perfectly.
And, if you’re looking for some ambient music just to play in the background as you work, here’s a little something extra for you. Mister Ambience has provided a one hour long music video that is all Voyager, and it’s so peaceful it would make the perfect bedtime music as well. Enjoy, and I’m sure these Youtubers would appreciate a thumbs-up!
