Scott Bakula filming ranch drama pilot called “Unbroken”
By Chad Porto
NBC is trying to create their own Yellowstone with Scott Bakula at the helm.
Scott Bakula will likely not return to Star Trek, at least anytime soon. A new report Deadline has Bakula working on a new ranch pilot, called “Unbroken” (a working title). The show is by executive producer Shaun Cassidy and will feature “three dynastic” ranch families from California, who get into all sorts of dramatic situations.
It’s basically Yellowstone but with a focus on the rodeo.
Bakula will play Ash Holleran, a retired rodeo champ, trying to keep his ranch. He’ll be joined by Anna Wood, Amanda Payton, Delon de Metz, and Oluniké Adeliyi who were all announced for the show prior to Bakula’s involvement.
This will be Bakula’s return to NBC for the first time since Chuck.
Unbroken may scuttle any talk of Scott Bakula returning to Star Trek
Dare I say it, but it feels like Bakula of all the Star Trek actors may be the most universally loved by the fanbase currently. There’s certainly a case for many names, but with how much people love him, his work on Quantum Leap, and the growing love fans have had with Star Trek: Enterprise in recent years, there really seemed to be a lot of support for Bakula from Trek fans.
Even more so this year as fans has been wanting to see a reboot of Enterprise, in the same vein as Star Trek: Picard. With more fans having seen the show, the groundswell for people to get another look at the crew of the first Enterprise has picked up steam.
While it was never anything that really felt close to happening, the arrival of “Unbroken” may have sealed that door, at least for now.
It’s always possible that Bakula comes back to Star Trek in some form before it’s all said and done, but if his new show is picked up it just doesn’t feel like it’ll be anytime soon.
