Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres Thursday, May 5th, on Paramount Plus.

I previously wrote that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds hadn’t shared many promos yet, and that we should expect more as the series gets ready to premiere in a little over a month. Paramount Plus was one step ahead and begain releasing character promos today, specifically highlighting the new characters that will take their place aboard the Enterprise when it launches in May. And these promos are a reason to get excited about the series.

First up is Lieutenant La’an Noonien Singh (Christina Chong) whose relation to Khan Noonien Singh will hopefully be covered in-depth in the series. Lt. Singh is the Chief of Security aboard the Enterprise and this brief glimpse of her backstory shows she was the only survivor of an attack on her planet.

Then Paramount Plus introduced us to Lt. Erica Ortega (Melissa Navia), the ship’s pilot, in a clip that brought in some humor. Lt. Ortega asks Captain Pike how close he wants to get to an anomaly and adds, “First date or third date?” He responds with “blind date.” To which she then replies “proceeding with caution, Sir.” I’m already loving their relationship.

And finally, we get introduced to the ship’s engineer, Hemmer who is an Aenar played by Bruce Horak. Aenars are a subspecies of Andorians, and most of them are blind, but they are so gifted they can see telepathically. According to this clip, Hemmer looks like he’s a force to be reckoned with, especially since he knows he’s a genius.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is showing promise with these new characters.

I love all of the series that have included the Enterprise, and I’m especially looking forward to this one. These clip introductions offer a brief glimpse, but they are enough to know the series is showing strong promise, and we Trekkies just have to cross our fingers and hope the entire show is as good as these promos are. Here’s looking forward to May 5th!
