Star Trek: Strange New Worlds just debuted its promo trailer.

As was previously reported, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has finally released a promo trailer, which Trekmovie debuted, that gives fans a glance into the upcoming first season of the series, which has already been renewed for season two. While things certainly look a lot glossier and higher-tech than what was seen in Star Trek: The Original Series, this promo shows several things that look promising and should get fans excited about the debut of Strange New Worlds in May on Paramount Plus.

An episodic television series was promised, and Strange New Worlds is delivering.

In the trailer, we see the Enterprise interacting with various aliens, and even encountering one that calls the presence of the ship “blasphemy,” which will, most likely, lead to a battle. Much like the days of The Original Series is looks like the series will be facing off against various aliens and problems each week, which will allow new fans to come on aboard and not get lost.

There is light-hearted and dry humor that hearkens back to The Original Series.

From Captain Pike’s side whisper of “I love this job” to Number One to Lt. Ortegas assuring the captain his talk with the unwelcoming alien “went well,” there were bits of humor sprinkled throughout the promo, which takes us back to the interactions between Spock, Kirk and Bones aboard the Enterprise 55+ years ago.

Spock is getting romance instead of having to wait for seven years.

Strange New Worlds is clearly intent on making Spock a well-rounded character despite seeming to be in control of his emotions. By showing that he believes a kiss is logical, Spock reveals he is open to stepping outside the comfortable boundaries the original Mr. Spock embraced. It gives us a different take on the Vulcan who may be struggling with more than just the control of his emotions. And we’re apt to learn even more about him throughout the series.

Though the series is set before Captain Kirk takes command of the Enterprise and there are legacy characters aboard, Strange New Worlds is clearly a different, unique series that is all its own. If fans watch it as something fresh and new rather than something tied directly to The Original Series, they’re liable to be more excited about it.

The trailer shows awe-inspiring moments where the crew sees or does something for the first time, which enables us to live the moments as well. If we focus more on what the series is delivering and less on comparing it to the series before it, we may just find that we enjoy it just as much.
