Star Trek: Lower Decks season three is coming soon.

Star Trek: Lower Decks is coming back sooner rather than later, and fans have a first look of the upcoming third season. The animate comedy had a heavy presence at Mission Chicago, the Star Trek-themed convention which hosted all the shows with panels and had assorted announcements like the Star Trek: Prodigy video game, Supernova, and the revelation that Spock has a first name.

So it’s been a weird weekend.

Yet, the folks at Lower Decks made sure to get their name out there in the Trek zeitgeist, revealing not only the teaser trailer for the third season but also the first image for the season as well, with the poster being revealed just below.

As you can see, the debris in space takes the shape of the Starfleet Delta Symbol, the universal insignia of the Federation. Below on the poster, you can see the series is expected back this year (2022), but there is no official date yet.

That’s probably due to not knowing when Star Trek: Lower Decks returns from its break. Right now Picard is airing its second season, then Strange New Worlds begins. Then either Lower Decks or Prodigy will get the call sometime around the end of summer, the start of fall.

The idea is to have Star trek air year-round with the series. So when Picard ends after season three, the idea would be to replace it with yet another Star Trek show, pairing it with Lower Decks, Prodigy, Strange New World, and Discovery, which is getting a fifth season.

Star Trek: Lower Decks trailer

The trailer hints at the crew of the USS Cerritos stealing the ship and going after Captain Freeman, who is missing. The official season three press release (courtesy of TrekMovie.com) is below.

"Season three of Star Trek: Lower Decks challenges the U.S.S. Cerritos ensigns in (hilarious) ways they could never imagine, starting with a shocking resolution for season two’s epic cliffhanger finale."

The cast had some fun before the trailer reveal, coming out dressed as their characters.

The show should return sometime in the third or fourth quarter of the season, so check back with RedShirtsAlwaysDie for updates on the show.
