Alex Kurtzman tasked Nicolas Meyer to make a Kan series and went radio silent.

Nicholas Meyer is known to many Star Trek fans for having written and directed Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, among works on Star Trek’s The Voyage Home and The Undiscovered Country. He’s one of the more popular figures in the history of Trek lore, so it’s no surprise that when presented by Alex Kurtzman with an opportunity to tell the story of Khan Noonien Singh on Ceti Alpha V, he lept at it.

Kurtzman wanted to do the three-hour/three-episode mini-series, which Meyer was very excited about. It’d be essentially two movies long and would be divided up into three episodes for a limited series. It would detail Khan, and what happened on Ceti Alpha V. It would fill in the gaps between the original series episode “Space Seed” and The Wrath of Khan.

Meyer wrote it, felt it came out great, but  Meyer never heard back from Kurtzman, posting a video on Twitter where he said;

"…thought it came out pretty good, but then I never heard from anybody again, and it’s just sitting there"

The Ceti Alpha V story has more potential to be good than some other ideas.

It’s unclear if Kurtzman just didn’t like the script or if he felt it could’ve been better, but to basically go cold on the idea overnight and not even tell Meyer why is pretty bad. The question has to be asked, was it that bad? On paper, a Ceti Alpha V limited series makes all the sense in the world, especially since the franchise has long talked about new ways to tell stories while on their streaming platform.

Here’s hoping they decide to give the series an honest-to-goodness shake, because with the right cast, and Meyer at the helm, the idea has a lot of potential.
