Star Trek: Picard had a figure from Patrick Stewart’s life make a cameo.

The latest episode of Star Trek: Picard had a surprise cameo appearance from someone close to Jean-Luc Picard himself, or well, more specifically, the man who plays Picard; Patrick Stewart. In the last episode of Picard, Stewart’s wife, Sunny Ozell, cameoed as the band’s leader.

She can be spotted during the bar scene, where Alison Pill’s Agnes Jurati walks into a bar. Ozell can be heard singing one of her original songs that she created in 2020 for her album Overnight Lows.

Ozell, who married Stewart in 2013, was asked by her husband to come. She told Entertainment Tonight about how the appearance came together.

"My appearance as a bar-band singer in Patrick’s show was entirely his idea, and when he first proposed it to me, I have to admit I was a bit reluctant. I like that our professional lives don’t overlap, even though we’re both performers. But when I learned that CBS Studios and the episode’s director, Joe Menendez, actually wanted me to sing one of my own tunes off my most recent record, Overnight Lows, I couldn’t resist the opportunity."

Star Trek: Picard appears to be a love letter to Patrick Stewart

With his wife appearing in the second season, one of his good friends in Jonathan Frakes guest-starring and directing episodes, and now the return of The Next Generation cast in full for the third season of Picard, it really does frame the series as a love letter to Stewart.

Stewart isn’t a spring chicken, he’s 81 years old, and it really does feel like Star Trek is doing all they can to honor him, and thank him for his time with the franchise before the series wraps.

This will likely be the last hurrah for Stewart with Trek, and while not everyone is a fan of the franchise, those who are will undoubtedly appreciate the overtures by everyone involved to make Stewart’s last go a memorable one.
