Star Trek: Prodigy will return to Paramount+ later this year.

Star Trek: Prodigy has brought back Admiral Janeway and Captain Chakotay (though in a limited run as of yet) so it’s natural for fans to want to know who else we can look forward to seeing in the future. Co-creator Dan Hageman was at a panel at Star Trek: Mission Chicago for the series, and one of the questions he was asked was the return of other characters in the Star Trek universe. [via Trekmovie] Hagemen didn’t commit to certain characters, but he did indicate that there would be others.

"“We honor where we are in the timeline. And we understand where we are. So there’s gonna be other characters you’re going to run into. But I can’t reveal anything.”"

An upcoming Star Trek: Prodigy episode will tie in to Star Trek: The Original Series

Another revelation from Hageman during the panel came when he discussed how working with animation doesn’t limit their imaginations. That worked in their favor when they chose to do “Kobayashi” and brought back familiar and beloved legacy characters.

"“We were only limited by our imagination with animation. And that’s what led us to do the episode “Kobayashi.” We felt like that was an amazing time to give homage to some of our favorite Trek characters. I think we can spoil an upcoming episode in the next ten episodes, written by Aaron Waltke, who is who is our resident Trek fan. He wrote “Kobayashi” as well. He wrote a love letter to TOS in the next ten. So for all you Ensign Garrovick fans, this is an Ensign Garrovick episode.”"

Interestingly, Hagemen mentioned Ensign Garrovick who only appeared on one episode of Star Trek: The Original Series “Obsession.” He served as a security officer aboard the Enterprise, and he worked with Captain Kirk to kill the same cloud creature that had killed Garrovick’s father eleven years prior. Since he was an ensign aboard the Enterprise, perhaps now, he’ll be another Captain that’s brought in when the Protostar finally makes it to Federation space, if that happens with Admiral Janeway hot on the trail.

Either way, we obviously have more characters to look forward to in the ten additional episodes to go in season one and the twenty on the way for season two. Let’s hope some familiar voices from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine make their way onto the series.
