Jeri Ryan will return to Star Trek: Picard for its final season.

A good portion of the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation is confirmed to be appearing in season three of Star Trek: Picard and the tweet by co-executive producer Terry Matalas promised that the actors wouldn’t be there for cameos. That, of course, has fans wondering if any of the current cast of Picard will be jettisoned to make room for more screen time for Picard’s friends.

Michelle Hurd, who plays Raffi Musiker, told Comicbook.com that she would be appearing in season three when she spoke of her excitement working with The Next Generation cast. And now, we have another confirmation, this one from Jeri Ryan who plays the former Borg drone, Seven of Nine. Ryan told The Hollywood Reporter that the fans would see Seven again. She also added that she thought the fans wouldn’t be disappointed with how the season would go as it was huge and a “very worthy sendoff for all of these characters.”

Jeri Ryan is only one of three cast members confirmed for the third season of Star Trek: Picard.

Ordinarily, we wouldn’t be concerned with whether or not the cast is returning for the following season as we would just assume they would. But since The Next Generation cast will need air time, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if one or more of the remaining cast on Picard don’t return.

So far, neither Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, or Santiago Cabrera have spoken out about whether they would be bringing their characters back to Picard for the final season. Since Evan Evagora’s character, Elnor, was killed in the early part of the season, technically, we’ve already said goodbye to him.

Isa Briones hasn’t had a large role in the second season, and though she could return as the synth, Soji, at the beginning of the season, she was on a diplomatic mission that was taking her around the galaxy. This explanation could work to keep her out of the third season.

As far as Pil and Cabrera go, it wouldn’t be surprising for Agnes Jurati to want some time away if she survives being the host for the Borg Queen, and Cabrera may decide to stay with Teresa and her son, but eliminating three (or more) characters might not be on the schedule. Either way, we’ll have to wait for confirmation from the rest of the characters. Barring that, we’ll be waiting until season three.
