Zachary Quinto says he’s not attached to Star Trek 4
Zachary Quinto is still very much up in the air about Star Trek 4.
When Star Trek 4 was announced as a go, there was anticipation that the movie would begin shooting this year for a potential 2023 release. Slowly, it’s come out that the stars didn’t know anything about the thumbs-up for the project and that a script was nowhere to be seen. Seems like that’s still the case according to Zachary Quinto, who portrayed the ever logical Vulcan, Mr. Spock, on the three movies that begin in 2009 with Star Trek.
Quinto told the The Hollywood Reporter about the status of the movie, which will be directed by Matt Shakman, and said he is in a “wait and see pattern.”
"“I don’t know that we will do it this year. I don’t know when it will happen. And I always maintain that I would love to do it. But until I get something concrete — ‘We’re shooting this day, here’s your script, get ready’ — I’m in a wait and see pattern. I’m not really attached to it in any way until I have much more definitive certainty that it’s actually happening.”"
Zachary Quinto does remain confident that the movie will happen.
It’s just a matter of when. The actor said that movies the size of Star Trek often happen in “fits and starts.” And that peoples’ schedules and other commitments can be hurdles. But he’s hoping he gets to reunite with Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, and Karl Urban, who were all part of the team that made up the three successful Star Trek movies. According to Saldana, the cast has already promised to honor Anton Yelchin in a fourth movie. The actor, who portrayed Pavel Chekov, passed away in 2016.
"“There’s so many different platforms for content. And where that content’s coming from and how it’s getting made, and how it fits into people’s schedules and other commitments and stuff is always the hurdle. But I hope that we’ll get to assemble the crew one more time. It’s a great ensemble and we love each other,” he offers. “And I think I can speak for everyone and say we’d love to find a way to come back and do another one.”"
While Quinto says he remains confident, he also indicated that he hoped it would happen. Without a script or a set start date, nothing is set in stone. Unfortunately, fans will have to remain in a “wait and see pattern” along with the actor.
