Gates McFadden will be in the final season of Star Trek: Picard.

As Star Trek: Picard draws closer to its final season, which is expected to air next year, viewers are looking forward to the return of the cast from Star Trek: The Next Generation which will include Gates McFadden who played Dr. Beverly Crusher on the series that ran for seven seasons and four movies. We’ve been assured that the cast aren’t just there for cameos, and with a recent tweet from McFadden, it sounds like the season is shaping up to really be more than what we can even expect.

Fans have long awaited a proper resolution to the simmering romance between Dr. Crusher and now Admiral Picard, and while McFadden’s appearance on Patrick Stewart’s series doesn’t guarantee closure for these two characters, it does offer a sense of hope, especially with McFadden calling the first six episodes of the series “awesome.”

It sounds like Gates McFadden will be in six episodes but maybe more.

After sharing the above tweet, McFadden received questions from fans, one of which asked if she was in as many as six episodes. She responded with “who knows? Maybe more.” To that, showrunner Terry Matalas responded with a cryptic tweet of his own.

McFadden went on to tell another fan that she loved the story the Picard writers had written for The Next Generation characters and hoped that fan would agree. And fans responded with gleeful hopes for the next season and excitement over the return of characters that haven’t been together since 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis.

However the ending of these characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation plays out, the writers/producers of Picard know how big of a fan following that series had. So it’s hard to believe that wouldn’t pull out all stops to make this a farewell to remember…or like McFadden says “awesome.”
