Melissa Navia wants fans to trust that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is in good hands
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds airs Thursdays on Paramount+.
The reviews for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds have been mostly positive, with fans excited about the similarities between this series and Star Trek: The Original Series. They’re also nervous because they really want to keep liking the show, but they’re uncertain about how it’s going to go from here. The first episode was great, but will the other ones be as good?
Melissa Navia, who portrays Lt. Ortegas on Strange New Worlds, told Trekmovie that she sees fans on social media who are hoping the series is as amazing as they want it to be. And Navia said she wants to reach out to everyone to reassure them that the show is in very good hands.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a wonderful new iteration of Star Trek, according to Navia.
The actress, who plays the ship’s pilot, is confident that Strange New Worlds is going to be everything fans want it to be and more. In fact, she says it’s going to continue to be what fans have loved about Star Trek. That’s a tall order, but there were many resemblances to The Original Series in that first episode that it’s believable this show could pull it off.
According to Navia, the team behind the series want fans to fall in love with “Star Trek that they’ve always loved.” And, of course, they’re hoping to make new fans because there can never be enough Star Trek.
"“All the special effects look amazing. And so you really feel not only like you’re in a movie, but you feel like you’re two hundred years in the future, and that’s what we want. We want it to be an immersive experience and we want fans to just fall in love. We want Star Trek fans to fall in love with Star Trek that they’ve always loved. And then also we want to make new fans because that’s what it is. And just just yes more Star Trek, you can’t get enough of Star Trek, I feel.”"
Navia concluded the interview with more words of reassurance.
"“You don’t have to worry… this is going to be a wonderful new iteration of Star Trek that’s going to continue what you’ve loved about it.” And so for me, it’s like it feels like a lot of pressure, but I trust what we’re doing is really good and fans are gonna dig it, and I just can’t wait to share it with you.”"
All we can do is hold on and watch, but all the signs point to Strange New Worlds being a Star Trek that everyone can love.
