The Orville: New Horizons debuts on Hulu on June 2nd.

Trekmovie shared the new trailer for The Orville: New Horizons which Hulu released today, and the third season of the Seth MacFarlane-led scifi series looks as epic as has been promised. It appears that the Planetary Union is still in conflict with the Kaylon, artificial lifeforms with disregard for biological life. And it looks like the Kaylon might be winning this time.

In season two of the series, the crew of The Orville went to battle with Isaac’s homeworld and barely managed to escape with their lives. (There’s still time to binge the series on Hulu as a refresher before season three begins.) And the trailer shows the ship being pursued by the Kaylon, who obviously didn’t handle their defeat very well.

The Orville: New Horizons may be looking at the end.

As previously reported, the cast of the series is no longer under contract. That brings into question what would happen were the series to be renewed. Contracts would have to be renegotiated, and undoubtedly, the production costs for the series are extremely high by now. Judging from the trailer, higher than they were when The Orville was on Fox.

In the trailer itself, there is talk of making history, of preserving peace, and a heartwarming speech by Scott Grimes’ character Lt. Gordon Malloy which certainly sounds like something that would be said when a journey is coming to an end. Then, of course, there’s the Kaylon telling The Orville to surrender or die, with Isaac insisting his people can find a way to co-exist with other beings.

Overall, the trailer gives a wonderfully epic glimpse of the upcoming season, but it could also be giving us a hint that this will be the end to a journey that’s ending far too soon.
