Adrian Holmes confirms Admiral April will be back on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds introduced Adrian Holmes as Admiral April.
Before the May 5th premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the character of Captain Robert April had only appeared as an animated character on Star Trek: The Animated Series. Still, Adrian Holmes, who was cast in the role, knew it was an iconic role as April was the first captain to helm the Enterprise. He watched it being built, and Christopher Pike served as his first officer. So even though not much was seen onscreen, there is a great amount of history about the captain who has since become an Admiral.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Holmes said he doesn’t know where Admiral April’s journey will take him on the series, but he did confirm that he had returned to shoot “some more.” While the actor certainly hopes his character will return more frequently to the series, being an admiral will, most likely, limit his interaction to Captain Pike which won’t be a bad thing. Their first scene together was, as Holmes called it, “magnificent.”
LeVar Burton welcomed Adrian Holmes to the Star Trek franchise.
The former star of Star Trek: The Next Generation, LeVar Burton reached out via video to welcome Holmes to the franchise, letting him know they were family, and that they were proud to have him aboard. As are the rest of us.
It was about time April was brought to life onscreen, especially since he was the first captain of the Enterprise. After reviewing the captain’s backstory, Holmes realized the importance of the character as well, and he gave the former captain gravitas, a commanding air, and caring nature in his first scene. Hopefully, Holmes will have the opportunity to bring more to the entire cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
