Marina Sirtis felt the Star Trek: The Next Generation crew was discarded after Nemesis.

Star Trek: The Next Generation was a show that started off very rough. It wasn’t exactly the most popular of shows for the first few years and even star Patrick Stewart saw that there were issues and contemplated leaving after season three. Things got better for the brand, and it went from the second live-action television series to the second film series in the brand’s history.

While not every movie is fondly remembered by Star Trek, the film franchise was able to get four films from The Next Generation crew. Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis. The first two films were well received, or well enough in the case of Generations but not so much with the last two. By the last film, Nemesis, Paramount was ready to move on and ended that version of the franchise with a bit of a whimper.

It was something that most in the Next Generation crew felt was a rough way to go out and one of those stars, Marina Sirtis, is happy to be able to correct their franchise departure thanks to Star  Trek: Picard’s third and final season.

Star Trek: Picard will give Marina Sirtis and company a true finale

Speaking to Red Carpet News in a video posted on June 5, Sirtis agreed with the idea that Picard’s final season, which serves as a Next Generation reunion, will be a fitting way to end that era of Star Trek and one that will be much better than Nemesis;

"Well the producers, before we even started filming when they were talking to us about the project, did say that they felt that we hadn’t been given a proper send off in Nemesis. And that they wanted to send us off the right way, which I appreciated because this is something that’s taken up my life on and off since 1987. And I did feel that we were kind of discarded a little bit. But we were definitely cherished on this project."

While we don’t know much outside of the reunion aspect of season three, Brent Spiner has let it slip that the last season will be coming in February of 2023.
