3 other villains we’d like to see in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
By Chad Porto
What other classic Star Trek villains or antagonists would we like to see in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds brought back the one character I genuinely thought we’d never ever see in another piece of Star Trek property; Sybok. Not technically back-back, but it seems like Sybok is fully intended to be introduced in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as a living, breathing member of the show. Now some will say this doesn’t mean that Sybok will actually appear but remember this; while Strange New Worlds has done fan service, they’ve never done it for the sake of fan service.
It may be a reference to a past (…future?) event, but it will matter to the story. Case in point, La’an Noonien Singh’s entire existence. From her lineage to Khan to the Gorn backstory; it will all matter somehow.
So you better believe we’re getting Sybok in some way shape or form. So with that said, what other great antagonists or villains should we see in Strange New Worlds?
Three antagonists we deserve to see debut in Strange New Worlds
Chang
Obviously, you’re not going to get anyone on the level of Christopher Plummer, who has both his talent and name value to play the younger Chang, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Finding an up-and-comer to play the role would be the best bet, and putting him in a story where we find out how he lost his eye, in a meeting with Captain Pike and Una Chin-Riley would be amazing. You could set it on th backdrop of Chin-Riley’s Illyrian stats being the reason Pike keeps the confrontation off the books, and away from future encounters. With how often Klingons and the Federation clashed, it makes complete sense that Chang would be someone to deal with multiple Federation captains.
Henry Mudd
Henry Mudd is one of those characters that keep popping up to cause mayhem and considering his involvement with the last show, and how his time on Discovery could’ve been better used, maybe with a more traditional Trek show, Mudd could have a better episode.
Jonathan Archer
Say it with me, Jonathan Archer was the Future Guy that the Suliban worked for. It’s not officially canon but that was the plan all along. Why not finish that storyline in a two-parter with Strange New Worlds? Maybe bring in both a living Archer from Enterprise and the future, alternate reality version. Yes, Archer would be 147 years old in canon, but Bones McCoy was 143 when he appeared on The Next Generation. If that’s not believable enough; time travel. Either way, let’s resolve Future Guy’s storyline.
