Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is making some changes in the Trek universe.

So far, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has stayed relatively close to canon in the essence that it hasn’t strayed too far away from the costuming of the humans or aliens that have appeared on the show. But the same thing can’t be said for an upcoming alien species that will make its way onto the series.

Star Trek fans aren’t big fans of redesigns like what Star Trek: Discovery did to the Klingons in its first season so this news may not be the best news. But, in an interview with Inverse, Strange New Worlds, costume designer Bernadette Croft, said that her team just did a “cool redesign for one alien species,” though we don’t know if that species will show up in season one or two.

Some redesign is necessary for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

There has been talk that the Klingons may be showing up, and it would make sense for there to be a redesign to the costumes they originally wore in Star Trek: The Original Series as TOS was working with a limited budget back in the 1960s. The idea of a “cool new redesign” isn’t exactly comforting, though, as what some think are cool, others think are a total mess. But they have come up with some concepts that just make sense like Nurse Chapel’s uniform.

Since it’s a redesign, though, this will be an alien species we’ve already seen which could also include the Romulans, Tribbles, or the Talosians. Or, it could potentially be a long-lived species we’ve seen on other Star Trek series so there really is no way of knowing which species will get an extreme makeover. We can only cross our fingers and hope the costume design team didn’t go too far afield with the redesign.
