Star Trek: Strange New Worlds may be ready to bring in the Romulans.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is playing in an infinity pool of possibilities with the series. Not only are they serving as a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, but they’re also serving as a sequel to Discovery’s first two seasons and Enterprise (to a lesser extent). That means there’s a lot to touch on and revisit, explore or conclude.

Because of this, the series has already expanded the lore of the Gorn, Una Chin-Riley, the Illyrians, Khan Noonien Singh, and his ancestors, among so much more. They may not be the only ones to get the extended info treatment, however.

It seems to be that the Romulans will once again make an appearance. To close out season one of Strange New Worlds, the USS Enterprise is seen taking part in a conflict with an unmentioned, unnamed alien race. The context of what is happening isn’t clear, but it’s obvious that whoever it is, started something that may be hard to walk back from.

Strange New Worlds appears to be hinting at the Romulans

One eagle-eyed Twitter user has seemingly spotted a Romulan Warbird in the trailer for the season finale of Strange New Worlds. The sequence shows a space battle with the Enterprise, an envoy of alien ships, and some smaller, hard-to-see ships.

Those smaller hard-to-see ships appear to be Romulan but may not be a Warbird.

The body and frame of the ship look more like a Romulan Bird of Prey than a War Bird. If it is a Romulan Bird of Prey, this wouldn’t be too far from established canon, set up by both the original series and Enterprise.

The Federation knows the Romulans are in the area, and we know they’re active, they just don’t know what they look like. While they’ve already done that gimmick with the Gorn, it’s sort of a necessary maneuver, as the showrunners are trying to pay respects to the original franchise.

That doesn’t mean that Pike can’t have a clandestine meeting with them, however.
