Will there be three Janeways in Star Trek: Prodigy?

Star Trek: Prodigy stars Kate Mulgrew as Hologram Janeway and Admiral Janeway.

We don’t have a release date yet for the second half of the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy, but presumably, it will return some time this year. With the third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks premiering on August 25th, we’re possibly looking at September or October for Prodigy. And when that return happens, we could be seeing an extra Janeway as well.

In a recent conversation with Den of Geek, Kate Mulgrew corrected the interviewer who said she was back as two Janeways on the animated series: Admiral Janeway and Hologram Janeway, saying “Actually, it’s three: Captain Janeway, Admiral Janeway, and Hologram Janeway.”

Star Trek: Prodigy has only introduced Hologram Janeway and Admiral Janeway.

In the first season, there were only two Janeways so it’s apparent the Emmy-nominated actress knows something we don’t, which, of course, isn’t a big shock. Mulgrew will be playing essentially three characters even though they are one and the same. Presumably, Captain Janeway will be introduced in flashbacks or memories, perhaps through Captain Chakotay’s eyes since Rorbert Beltran will be returning to the series as well.

And, if that is the case, and we’ll be seeing Captain Janeway in flashbacks, it’s entirely possible we could see other cast members report for duty as well. It would stand to reason that at least one or two of the original members of Star Trek: Voyager remained under his command. While it’s possible to do the flashbacks without those characters, Prodigy would certainly benefit from the major boost bringing in additional Voyager characters would give it. Fans have been waiting too long to see (or hear) their favorites again, and most likely, more fans would tune in for the reunion.
