Star Trek :Deep Space Nine had many standout episodes during its seven year run.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine premiered on January 3, 1993 and ran until June 2, 1999, airing a total of 176 episodes. With a stellar cast that included Avery Brooks, Nana Visitor, Alexander Siddig, Rene Auberjonois, Terry Farrell, Cirroc Lofton, Colm Meaney, Michael Dorn, and Nicole de Boer, the series delivered high-quality television with very few episodes that one could deem unfavorable. That’s why it’s difficult for everyone to agree on the top ten episodes of the series.

Space.com shared its top ten list a couple of days ago, and some of my personal favorites were missing from the list. Also, it included a couple that, for me, weren’t anywhere near as engrossing as others. But that’s what opinions are all about.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine makes choosing favorite episodes difficult.

The site included the episodes that make virtually every list as well they should, including In the Pale Moonlight, The Visitor, and Far Beyond the Stars. Also included was The Siege of AR-558, which was a gripping episode that showed the horrors of war. One favorite episode of mine that wasn’t included was “It’s Only a Paper Moon,” though it was suggested that the two episodes be paired.

Some other personal favorites would have to include “The Wire,” an episode that confronts a different kind of addiction. Andrew Robinson and Alexander Siddig play off each other so well in this episode that it’s difficult to choose which one did the better job.

As I mentioned in another post, the season four episode “Hard Time” stands out because of Colm Meaney’s portrayl of a man who thought he’d spent twenty years in prison only to discover it was all in his head. It’s an excellent episode all the way around and deals with the harsh topics of torture and suicide.

Another addition to my list woud be “Second Skin.” Nana Visitor’s character Major Kira is kidnapped by the Cardassians and told she is an undercover Cardassian agent. There comes a point where she almost believes it. It’s mind manipulation at its best, and Visitor’s acting is superb.

I could name fifteen more episodes that are my favorites. Deep Space Nine was just that good. What about you? Did your favorite episodes make the list? Which ones do you think should be added and/or removed?
