J. Lee portrays John LaMarr on The Orville: New Horizons.

The Orville: New Horizons is only a few episodes away from wrapping up its third season, and fans think there has been one thing missing from the series. There’s not been enough of John LaMarr, the chief engineer of The Orville. Though LaMarr has had some good scenes, he hasn’t had episodes that heavily involve his character like Isaac or Bortus has. But J. Lee, the actor who portrays the brilliant engineer, isn’t worried about not being front and center.

In an interview with the actor, CinemaBlend asked what Lee thought about the fans wanting more of his character on the series. Lee encouraged fans to keep tweeting about what they wanted with the possibility that a LaMarr-centric episode might pop up in the future. He was also quick to point out, though, that he was willing to do his part.

"“Just keep tweeting about it, maybe it’ll pop up. But also, we got eight main characters on this show, so it’s more about what works for the show. I think as an actor, J. Lee, as well as John, you do your part. If it’s a John solo episode, hopefully, that comes in the future. It might be this season, it might be next season if we keep enough energy going. For the meantime, John is happy to do what he needs to do.”"

J. Lee didn’t mention what is coming up for his character in season three.

But no one is really sharing what is coming up much beyond the brief teasers we see before new episodes air. The Orville made the big leap from Fox to Hulu this year, and there’s, undoubtedly, a lot of moving parts in that move, one of which is making sure the series gets renewed for a fourth season. Keeping fans interested is one way of doing that. Surprises tend to get people excited and bring them back for more, and The Orville has been pulling out all stops to make sure each episode has something that catches fans off-guard.

As Lee said, there are eight main cast members on the series, and with the series only getting ten episodes this season, it would be difficult to allot an episode to every character and still move the story along like it needs to. One way to guarantee getting more of LaMarr is making sure the series gets a renewal. And the more we talk about the series and tune in, the better the chances The Orville will return.
