The cult classic Galaxy Quest that Tim Allen starred in continues to do wonders years later.

When Tim Allen starred in the 1999 film Galaxy Quest, fans probably didn’t expect it to reach the cult levels that it did. Beloved by most fans of science fiction nearly 25 years later, the film has succeeded to continue its staying power by just being a great piece of science fiction. Not only that but it pays homage to the original Star Trek property brilliantly.

Due to the sustained success, the film not only achieved levels that it didn’t upon release, but discussions of a sequel series have been kept alive for years.

So it’s no surprise that when a local theater in Suttons Bay, Michigan needed new seats, they turned to the cult-classic film. In doing so, they were able to attach the film’s lead, Tim Allen, to appear on stage before the event to take questions from the fans, give away signed goodies and show off a sample a sampling of the new seats the money is being raised to pay off; according to the Glen Arbor Sun.

Galaxy Quest is the perfect Star Trek homage

Star Trek is the benchmark for science fiction, as it has thrived in one form or another for nearly 60 years. So when we saw that Galaxy Quest is the perfect, comedic homage to the series, that’s not something to take lightly. It’s brilliantly done and blends a very realistic post-series life for the stars of the in-universe show, the fandom that surrounds it, and somehow funnels it all through a gripping narrative of a real struggle between two warring aliens.

It also boasts an incredible cast that features icons of the science fiction and fantasy worlds like Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman. Not to mention Sam Rockwell is everyone’s favorite Red Shirt, given a second go around.

The film is wonderful and anytime there’s a chance to talk about it, we’re going to.
