Star Trek: Lower Decks will visit Deep Space Nine in season three.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine hasn’t had much attention on the newer series. They’ll throw out an occasional Easter egg here and there, but there hasn’t been another visit to the iconic space station…until now. In the season three official trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks, which Paramount+ shared at San Diego Comic-Con, the Lower Decks crew is heading to the station, which is revealed in animated form. Along with the ceremonial circling of the USS Cerritos to give us all a better view of the space station, the Deep Space Nine theme song plays in the background.

At Comic-Con [via Den of Geek], Mike McMahan, the creator of Lower Decks, assured fans that the crew’s visit to DS9 wasn’t just going to be a flyby type of situation. The crew will not only go inside and walk the promenade, they’ll see some familiar faces, one of which is already included in the trailer (General Martok, the Klingon who became family to Lt. Commander Worf), and they’ll even lick some Jumja sticks.

Will Star Trek: Lower Decks give us any insight into what has happened to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s characters?

We haven’t had an update on what’s been happening with the characters so it would be nice to know if Colonel Kira is still in charge of the space station. Does Dr. Bashir still work there, and did his romance with Ezri Dax work out?

A surprise guest we’d all love to see, even in animated form, is Captain Sisko, but if he is making a vocal appearance, there’s been not even a hint of it anywhere. But then, we didn’t know Wesley Crusher would show up in the season two finale of Star Trek: Picard, either. We certainly don’t mind happy surprises, and Sisko would be one of those.

With some familiar faces from Deep Space Nine showing up in animated form, are we one step closer to seeing them in live action? We can only hope!
