William Shatner and James Doohan took to the British airwaves in this hilarious commercial.

William Shatner and James Doohan didn’t have the best of relationships during the time they worked together filming Star Trek: The Original Series and the movies that followed. According to Screenrant and a host of other sources, Doohan was quoted as having said “I like Captain Kirk, but I sure don’t like Bill. He’s so insecure that all he can think about is himself.” The animosity he felt for Shatner continued well into the 1990s, with the actor refusing to be interviewed for either of Shatner’s books, Star Trek Memories and Star Trek Movie Memories.

The pair did reunite, technically, for a UK commercial for National Power & PowerGen in 1990. While neither actor shared the screen with the other, they both hammed up their parts with Doohan making a wisecrack about Shatner’s need for more power.

William Shatner and James Doohan brought the comedy to the ad with their unique traits.

In Star Trek, Shatner’s Captain Kirk was notorious for telling Doohan’s Montgomery “Scotty” Scott that he needed more power. This ad plays on that with Kirk being trapped on a planet with a meteor storm. Scotty tells Kirk not to worry, that it’s only a shower, and beams down an umbrella which doesn’t please Kirk. When Kirk insists that Scotty beam them up, the engineer says he doesn’t have the power. Of course, Kirk demands more power which leads Scotty to say “the man’s power mad.”

Shatner and Doohan reunited again in 1991 for Star Trek VI and in1994 for Star Trek: Generations. And Shatner appeared at “Beam Me Up Scotty … One Last Time,” in August 2004 for Doohan’s final convention. According to TrekToday, Shatner was just one of the stars who showed up to salute Doohan for his legacy and dedication to the Star Trek fandom.
